Reflection
Wisdom isn’t something we stumble upon; it’s a treasure that must be diligently sought. In this passage, Solomon invites us to pursue wisdom with intentionality and perseverance, comparing it to searching for silver or hidden treasures. This kind of pursuit requires effort, focus, and a heart that truly desires to know God’s truth.
Notice the active verbs Solomon uses: “receive,” “treasure,” “call out,” “seek,” and “search.” Each one emphasizes that seeking wisdom isn’t passive; it’s a deliberate, disciplined process. But the reward is worth it. When we seek wisdom with all our hearts, we find something far greater than practical insights—we find the fear of the Lord and the knowledge of God.
For leaders, this pursuit is essential. Every decision we make, every person we influence, and every goal we pursue must be rooted in God’s wisdom. Without it, we risk leading others astray or relying on our own flawed understanding. Seeking wisdom isn’t just about solving problems; it’s about cultivating a heart that aligns with God’s will, allowing His truth to shape how we lead.
The question isn’t whether wisdom is available—it is. The question is, will we seek it with the urgency and determination it deserves?
Word Study: Seek (בָּקַשׁ, baqash)
The Hebrew word baqash means “to search for, to strive after, or to desire.” It conveys a sense of intensity and purpose, like the pursuit of something deeply valuable.
For leaders, baqash reminds us that wisdom doesn’t come by accident. It requires intentionality and persistence. When we prioritize seeking God’s wisdom, we align ourselves with His purposes and gain the discernment needed to lead well.
Challenge
Reflect on your pursuit of wisdom.
1. Are you actively seeking God’s wisdom, or have you allowed other priorities to take its place?
2. What changes can you make to ensure that seeking wisdom is a central part of your leadership?
Identify one practical way you can pursue wisdom this week, whether it’s committing to a daily time in God’s Word, asking for advice from a trusted mentor, or spending focused time in prayer for discernment.
Leadership in Action
Think about a challenge or decision you’re currently facing as a leader.
• Have you sought God’s wisdom in this situation?
• What steps can you take to actively seek His guidance and align your actions with His truth?
Choose one action step to pursue wisdom in this area, such as consulting Scripture, praying for clarity, or seeking godly counsel. Write it down and commit to following through.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for the gift of wisdom and the promise that You will reveal it to those who seek You. Teach me to treasure Your Word and to pursue Your truth with all my heart. Forgive me for the times I’ve relied on my own understanding, and guide me to trust in You fully. Help me to lead with humility and discernment, reflecting Your wisdom in every decision I make. Amen.
